Rice Productivity Increases, Indonesia Receives International Award
The government’s efforts to improve Indonesia’s food security have been appreciated by international organizations. Recently, Indonesia was honored by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) for its successful food security system in terms of rice self-sufficiency. This has made the government continue to strive to improve and maintain agricultural self-sufficiency, especially by increasing farmer productivity and yields.
This award is given for the resilience of the agriculture and food system that realizes rice self-sufficiency in 2019-2021 through the application of agricultural technology innovation. President Joko Widodo received the award at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Sunday, August 14, 2022.
“We congratulate Indonesia for its remarkable success in achieving rice self-sufficiency and increasing the level of food security,” said IRRI Director General Jean Balie in his remarks, as quoted from CNBC, (24/8/2022). According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Indonesia achieved more than 90% self-sufficiency ratio.
